Triage resources starting TODAY for Lake County, IL

Updated: Nov 4, 2025

In light of the Independence Day massacre that occurred in Highland Park, Illinois, many citizens - including myself - are having a hard time processing, coping and supporting one another during this time. Several agencies, individuals and businesses have stepped up to provide crisis support.

Compass Health Center is providing the community with online virtual support groups lead by clinicians trained in crisis. CHP notes that these support groups are educational and are not meant to be a substitute for actual treatment for trauma. Click here for a sharable flyer. Today, July 6th, three virtual groups are going to be offered via Zoom:

  1. How to Talk to Children about Tragedy for Parents occurring at 6pm, click here to register

  2. Skills for Coping in the Aftermath of Tragedy for Young Adults (ages 16 - 23) occurring at 4pm, click here to register

  3. Skills for Coping in the Aftermath of Tragedy for Adults (ages 24+) occurring at 6pm, click here to register

Tomorrow, July 7th, the same groups will be held at different times:

  1. How to Talk to Children about Tragedy for Parents occurring at 12pm, click here to register

  2. Skills for Coping in the Aftermath of Tragedy for Young Adults (ages 16 - 23) occurring at 6pm, click here to register

  3. Skills for Coping in the Aftermath of Tragedy for Adults (ages 24+) occurring at 4pm, click here to register

The Record, a nonprofit community news site, gives a rundown of the events that took place on July 4th. This website includes a profile of the victims, upcoming community events, places to donate, community resources, and services. Click here to read the article

Local community members of Highland Park created a comprehensive Google Doc with the GoFund Me pages of the families who were directly impacted by the shooting, MealTrain Links, community fundraisers, events, community space / offerings, free community services from local businesses, blood drives, mental and physical health resources, reading materials, and next steps.
